AMD Shatters Records! ๐Ÿš€ Intel's CPU Market Share Falls to 31-Year Low, Back to 1995 Era

๐Ÿ“Œ Key Highlights:
- Intel's x86 CPU market share fell below 70% for the first time since 1995, reaching 69.3% in Q2 2026.
- AMD gained market share to a new record high of 30.7%, growing significantly across all market segments: Desktop, Laptop, and Server.
- The Server market is a fierce battleground. AMD grew 7.3% year-over-year, increasing its share to 34.5%.

The x86 CPU market is undergoing a historic shift! A recent report from renowned research firm Mercury Research reveals that in Q2 2026, Intel's market share dropped below 70% for the first time in 31 years, or since 1995, reaching 69.3%. This marks a 6.5% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Conversely, AMD has perfectly filled this gap, increasing its market share to 30.7%, a new record high for the company. Dean McCarron, President of Mercury Research, confirmed these figures as Intel's 31-year low. This data covers only CPU shipments for PCs and Servers. If semi-custom, embedded, and IoT products (such as SoCs in game consoles) are included, Intel's share drops further to 65.9%, while AMD's skyrockets to 34.1%.

When delving into each market segment, AMD shows impressive growth across all battlegrounds:
๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ **Desktop Market:** AMD holds a 34.9% share, up 2.7% year-over-year, while Intel is at 65.1%. This is despite Intel's CPUs recently returning to the Top 10 best-selling products on Amazon.

๐Ÿ’ป **Laptop Market:** This is the segment where AMD saw the most growth, increasing by 8.4% year-over-year to a 28.9% share. Intel holds 71.1%.

โ˜๏ธ **Server Market:** The fiercest battleground. AMD showed strong performance, growing 7.3% year-over-year, capturing 34.5% of the share, while Intel is at 65.5%. Competition in this market continues to intensify, with AMD having launched its 6th generation EPYC โ€œVeniceโ€ using the Zen 6 architecture, and Intel preparing to release Xeon 7 โ€œDiamond Rapidsโ€ and data center GPUs like โ€œCrescent Islandโ€ into the market.

Overall, AMD's total PC market share reached a new record high of 30.3%, an increase of 6.4% year-over-year. Intel commented that the company's Data Center segment sales saw historic year-over-year growth and more long-term supply agreements with partners, demonstrating their efforts to fully re-engage in the competition.

๐Ÿ’ฌ With such fierce competition in the CPU market, do you think Intel can reclaim its throne in the next 2-3 years, or will AMD continue its advance? Share your thoughts!
