Synology has announced the launch of its latest NAS product series called DiskStation neo+, which is considered a sub-product line developed from the popular DS Plus platform. This new series comprises 4 models: DS1825neo+, DS1525neo+, DS925neo+, and DS725neo+. The primary objective of the neo+ series is to offer a more cost-effective and accessible option for users who desire Plus Series-level performance but have a limited initial budget.
The most significant difference in the neo+ series is the modification of the factory-installed memory (RAM). It will come with 4GB non-ECC DDR4 RAM instead of the ECC RAM typically found in standard Plus models. This change allows Synology to reduce production costs and set a lower initial retail price, responding to the rising memory prices in the market. However, users can still upgrade to ECC RAM in the future as workload demands increase.

Despite the adjustment to the initial RAM specification, other hardware components remain robustly equipped for high-performance operation. Most models (DS1825neo+, DS1525neo+, DS925neo+) feature a 4-core AMD Ryzen V1500B CPU, while the smallest model, DS725neo+, uses a 2-core Ryzen R1600 CPU. All models are equipped with 2.5GbE network ports and include built-in M.2 slots for SSD caching to accelerate data access.
🚀 Flexibility and Upgradability
For those requiring maximum performance, larger models like the DS1825neo+ and DS1525neo+ also include PCIe 3.0 slots for installing additional 10GbE or 25GbE network cards. All models in the neo+ series can upgrade RAM up to 32GB (supporting both ECC and non-ECC). Furthermore, storage capacity can be expanded with the DX525 Expansion Unit. On the software side, all devices run on the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, which comes with a full suite of tools such as Synology Drive for Private Cloud, Active Backup Suite for data backup, and Surveillance Station for CCTV systems.
